Description
The material used to create the hive and to accommodate to the hosts in capsules is the RESIN. It's a crystalline resin secreted and dense. It has become a belief somewhat unanimous that this resin is excreted by the Alien Drones and not by the Queen.
What do we know? The resin isn't corrosive in any way. The atmospheric integrity of the processing station on LV-426 wasn't changed by the presence of the hive. It is believed that the Xenomorph creates the resin internally and later excretes it by other means. The more extensive theory is that is regurgitated, meaning that it's excreted from the mouth. Like the one from the bees and wasps, this resin hardens rapidly. Once solidified it acquires a great strength. Its strength has been compared with the silk of the spider, but this theory seems inexact due to a scene of the Lt. Ripley that could free a girl from the resin of a Xenomorph.
The resin, according to what has been mentioned previously acts like an isolating material for the hive. The dense crystalline nature of the resin makes it extremely difficult to eliminate, whether by heat or humidity. So even if there is a fluctuation in temperature of the surrounding environment the internal temperature of the hive will still continue being relatively constant.
The density of this resin has been registered to be so large that it provokes interferences in the broadcasts of radio and video signals. It is highly improbable that this is a adapting characteristic, but a secondary effect that has played well with this species. |
